Jeremy is back in the hospital

Just posting this to let everyone know who might be concerned or watching for updates: as of yesterday morning, Jeremy is back at the hospital. He'll be there for a few days. I checked in on him last night and he's doing okay except for the pain. He's not in life threatening trouble. There's a problem with his leg that they need to deal with and it's just going to be a big setback for his rehab.

Jer says hi to everyone and hopes you're all doing well. He misses the blog and told me to write "fuck squirrels" so there it is. I'll keep an eye on the comments here and pass along any well wishes and comments when I go in to see him next. You can also send them to my email (pixelacy at gmail) or email Jer and he'll get your messages when he's out of the hospital.

The Patreon plan is getting shelfed. Between school coming up, rehab and this happening, I don't know how much time Jer will have for blogging anymore. Contributions are still welcome but Jeremy basically just had the month taken out from under him and I'm not going to make any promises on his time or availability.

I know how Jer feels about the whole thing, so I'll put it out there that well-wishes are more valuable than dollars right now. I'd like some nice things to take in to him when I go visit on Thursday ^_^

  1. I have well wishes for Jeremy. A whole lot of them. He can have them all.

He shouldn't sweat it, we'll be fine without his blogging. We'll be here if he returns and starts again but he doesn't owe us anything and should focus on his life.

  2. Here's hoping this is only a minor setback in your recovery.
    Get better, Jeremy!

I've been loving the blog. I check it often, and when there's something new it's always a bit like Christmas.

But by no means let it get in the way of life! We'll be here when you get back.

  3. Jeremy,

Your blog has given me immense enjoyment. It may not seem like it to you, but your words have actually had far-reaching influence. I've had long conversations with friends and family about your reviews, and they've caused me to re-evaluate my opinions about several films. If I could, I'd love to sit down with you and watch movie after movie. Since I can't, I just want you know your work is appreciated and that you have many well-wishes on your path to recovery.

I've gone through some hard times myself, and I know how difficult it can be to stay positive. Nevertheless, that's the most important thing. Otherwise the monster in the dark wins. And you don't want THAT. :D

Perhaps it's a small spoiler, but I'll leave you with this quote from Dune, which the main character recites when dealing with insane amounts of pain (and yes, I recommend Dune):

    I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain.

All the best, Jeremy. I know this is hard, but you'll get through this, and I can't wait to see what you do in the future.

  4. Best wishes and a quick recovery @Jer.

    Fuck Squirrels?

  5. Oh, jeez. Just last night I posted about how well he was bearing up and hopes for things to go better -- I'm kind of glad now that he doesn't automatically see comments, because in retrospect that seems like really poor timing. Fingers crossed hard for the leg repair to come off smoothly, and sending good thoughts his way for getting through rehab.

  6. Today at lunch we were having a conversation about Disney/Marvel and copyright infringement, and without thinking I said "The Mouse has no time for your shit!". Jeremy's words and passion are present in my day-to-day life, and I'm sure in a lot of other people's. I am sending all of my healing and happy thoughts to far off Canuckistan. You got this !

  7. Oh no, poor Jeremy.

It sucks you've had this setback, but I hope you get better soon!

  8. Best of luck, Jeremy! May your fortitude and will saves all succeed in this difficult endeavor!

  9. Jeremy,

You're the one who got me to watch Big Trouble in Little China for the first time. My brother could never manage it. You did it. Reading your reactions to some of my most beloved media is enormously entertaining, and I'm always excited to see how you'll respond to the next thing.

Get better, man! Your health comes first.

Be excellent to one another, and party on, dudes.

  10. How dare you get sick before you watch Monty Python! You are to be stoned to death!

In all seriousness, hope you feel better soon, and I wish you good luck with whatever hospital hoo-ha you'll have to deal with.

  11. Oh gosh. Sorry to hear, Jer. Hope you feel better soon. Even if you can't find time to blog I hope you'll be able to catch movies and stuff.

  12. Sending good vibes to Jeremy. Wishing him all the best in his recovery! His writing means a lot to us all.

  13. Hey, Jer,

I love the way you watch a movie or TV show, does that make sense? I have missed a few of these movies, and the way you talk about them makes me want to dive in.
All that wit and humour of yours will help you through the healing. If you can't get back into blogging for a while or decide to move on to something else, I just want to say thank you for sharing your experience with the world (hello from Australia, by the way).
I hope your hospital stay gets you back on track with your recovery. You can do it, young Jedi!
Big hugs, good vibes and hell yeah, fuck squirrels. We don't have them here but they look like dead shifty little buggers.
    Love, Sooz x

  14. We miss you, Jeremy! I've started to incorporate "X has no time for your Y" into daily conversation! Get better soon, and hang in there - you've got thousands of us surely pulling for you, even if you never return to this blog.

Somebody put "FUCK SQUIRRELS!" on a t-shirt! :)

  15. Best wishes for a quick and painless recovery. I'm sending good thoughts your way.

  16. Wishing a speedy recovery and pudding. Pudding makes everything better.
Thank you, Jer. I've really enjoyed your fresh, intelligent perspective and hope someday soon to hear it again.

  17. I've had to spend ten days in a hospital before, so I know things can't be all that great for you right now. Here's hoping you'll get better soon and won't have to deal with this again.

  18. Oh man. I am so sorry that you had to go back to hospital. I hope that whatever is wrong is reasonably easily handled and that you'll be on track for rehab and getting all the way better very soon.

I've really enjoyed your fresh takes on old school media. It brings back some of the old sense of wonder that I felt when I first encountered these books and movies. I hope that you'll be able to continue some of the recaps as time permits, but if not -- thank you for a lovely few weeks this summer of seeing things through very fresh eyes.

Peace and joy and best wishes always.

  19. I hope you recover just as quickly as is possible, that you have the Hobbit in the hospital with you for a pleasant distraction, and that you are able - regardless of the ability to blog about it - to go back to experiencing all sorts of geeky media for the first time. Best wishes!

  20. Hope things improve soon.

Star Wars was part of my life since childhood. I saw all the films in the cinema, taped them when they were broadcast on TV, and frequently rewatched them. Eventually got a bit jaded. And then the disappointments of the prequel trilogy soured me on the series, and I pretty much lost interest in the whole phenomenon 9-odd years ago.

Then I got pointed to this blog, and it reminded me of all the good stuff in Star Wars. And the other day I was in town, just browsing in a second-hand DVD shop, and came across a box set of the original trilogy. The set that included the original original trilogy, not just the version with the CGI 'lizard cow thing' and other unnecessary embellishments.

So I bought it, and have been rediscovering the delights of classic Star Wars. But for this blog, I doubt that I'd ever have bothered. So I want to thank Jeremy for helping me recover some of the joy that I'd lost, and to wish him much enjoyment of the media he has yet to experience.

  21. Aww, Jeremy, I really hope you feel better soon.

Seems like life is being severely unkind to you, lately. Tell you what, though: You have proven, through your work here, that you have genuine talents. I'm not talking about the mere fact that you haven't seen a lot of stuff; that's a fantastic happenstance, but it's only part of what has made this such an awesome ride for the rest of us. No, Jeremy, you have a gift for the analysis of these things. We've seen you cut right to their core themes over and over. More than that, plain and simply, you can *write.* Remember that, hold on to it, and don't let anyone convince you otherwise (because, hey, you have no time for their shit). It is a pleasure to read your take on film and music. Even after you've plowed through the whole list and seen all the classics, it will be worthwhile and entertaining to read your take on the latest.

Now, whether or not you're able to get right back to blogging the way we'd all like, I mean to say that you have the sort of gifts that you can carry with you into other pursuits in life. Your writing has some wonderful kind of flair that's bound to show up in your schoolwork, for example, and I know you'll do well.

In conclusion, please know that we're all pullin' for ya, and Sciuridae delenda est!

  22. Good luck man. Hope things get better. Thank you for sharing your time with us. It was a fantastic ride. And even if you don't have time to blog, I hope you keep up with your media experiences. Take care of yourself. You are an awesome dude.

  23. Someone over on CHUD.com linked to this blog, starting with the Star Wars reviews. Ever since then I've been hooked. Jeremy is hilarious, insightful, and insanely quotable. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

  24. I hope he's ok and the hospital visit goes well.

Does he still have the Hobbit to read while he's there?

  25. I hope you recover soon, Jeremy. Don't worry about us, we'll be fine while we wait :). Your health should be the first priority in your life right now.

  26. Get well soon, Jeremy! Thanks for writing the blog, it was fun while it lasted :)

  27. How is Jeremy? I fear this lack of news means bad news...

  28. Wishing you the best. You're something of a hero around here. Get well soon!
